North Korea and the Growing Threat to the United States

North Korea test fired another ICBM missileNorth Korean Threat to American Cities. Friday July 28, 2017 which supposedly is capable of hitting cities in the United States this time.

This date is my mother’s birthday and since she died at the age of 29 and was from upstate New York, all of this reminds me of the cold war era in the late fifties and early 1960s between the US and Russia.

I lived in upstate New York at the time where underground missile silos were being built all over the place. Upstate New York missle siloI was in elementary school then and moved to South Carolina in the Spring of 1961 during second grade where makeshift bomb shelters had been built at some schools. This was a failed attempt to give us and our parents an idea of what we were supposed to do to prepare for a possible war, but the war never materialized, not physically anyway, and the shelters were forgotten about and then torn down years later during the Reagan years after Russia collapsed.

Once again, this country is being provoked into a pre-war scenario due to the actions of another lunatic dictator in a third world country. I use the term third world because of the destitute way the major portion of North Korea’s population has to live thanks to their “Supreme Commander” Kim Jong-un. In fact, the only way to live otherwise is to be in the North Korean military and be forced to worship him as a god or forced into a labor camp farm to serve his gluttonous needs…like a 20,000 calories per day diet while most of his people starve.

Will these provocations be played out into an all out war between the United States and North Korea? I believe only by a mistake on the part of one of the players especially that of China, the United States, or Russia mainly, but also that of Iran and other rogue nations who should not have nuclear capabilities in the first place and in collusion with North Korea.

I did not say North Korea would directly because everything Kim Jong-un does is calculated and he knows that he doesn’t stand a snow ball’s chance in hell against the US. He isn’t stupid, but he has read the history books and knows what happened with Germany and Japan. His purpose is to use Russia or China to do his dirty work. So far it hasn’t worked, but it’s getting closer to a real showdown with one of them for the United States.

Would Kim Jong-un strike out at the US? North Korea would only strike out after a devastating initial attack by another source while the US was on it’s knees and unable to strike back. However, keeping our nation secure is to keep our  knowledge and information secure of exactly all of the capabilities we do have…from everyone. That is the deterrent, not putting all of our cards on the table.

This is where Donald Trump comes in.  I didn’t vote for Trump, although my wife did. I didn’t see what he was up to until later after the election. But I didn’t vote for Hillary Clinton either.

Thanks to the actions of this nut job Kim Jong-un, China now has become extremely uneasy about relations with the US as well as other countries and has their first offshore military base and I’m sure will pursue more.

People think Donald Trump is also a nut job, but in reality he knows exactly what he is doing. He is playing a game of chess like a master and getting his pieces into  place by moving them all over the board. That’s why so many changes in his administration and keeping the press at bay. He is weeding out who he can and can’t trust.

Trump is a master at negotiations and making deals and a master of illusion. Every action has a purpose and since before the election his purpose has been and is to keep the press and the Democrats so preoccupied with illusions that they can’t interfere with the magic behind the scenes. Watch The Illusionist  if you have not already seen it and you will understand what I mean.

This movie is so Donald Trump, nothing is what it seems.

Prescription dog, cat foods face anti-trust lawsuit

Prescription dog, cat foods face anti-trust lawsuit

The title above links to one I ran across recently while doing some research on pet foods. It was very interesting as my wife and I have taken care of feral cats for quite some time.

Recently one of our cats, a seven year old Burmese male named Kellin, became very ill with a urinary tract infection. I called our vet who happened to be going out of town for the holiday. They recommended having Kellin seen immediately or he would die and since they could not see him we were referred to another vet. It was actually a local pet hospital. We rushed the cat to the other facility and were treated better than by our own vet of many years.

Kellin was in surgery after some tests and we were given an estimate of the bill upfront. The bill was estimated to be nearly $1,000, however, that wasn’t the shocker. They recommended we place our cat on a prescribed special cat food.

As I had to leave for an eye exam across the street before the vet returned with the itemized total, my wife stayed to talk to the vet more. She had said OK to the cost of the medical care, but not to the cost of the food.

Our cat came through surgery fine and they did take very good care of him even calling us twice a day to keep us updated for the three days he was there. Since my wife had just had two surgeries herself and wasn’t feeling well the day Kellin was released, I went to pick up him up. I paid the bill which was now listed at $1,100 and headed home with two arm loads of a so called Prescription cat food, one 8.5 LB bag of dry and a pallet of 24 cans. A hundred dollars worth of prescription diet cat food.

When I got home my wife said she told them we did not want the prescription food, but they had tacked it onto the bill anyway. We checked it online and found we had paid three times higher than what we could have purchased it for online even with shipping costs. We actually found very little difference in that food and and the Purina cat food he had been fed his whole life.

After some investigative work we now believe that Kellin’s problem may have stemmed from him drinking well water at our home and may not have been the food.

Kellin was a very tiny and very ill little kitten my daughter had found that had been abandoned by the side of the road. She lived in the city with her mother and had city water service. When she graduated and moved away she asked my new wife and I to keep Kellin. We had him less than a year when he became ill.

We live in the country and have a 200 foot deep sand well and we think the minerals in the water may have caused Kellins problem, although we take care of 28 other cats who, except for three, have all drank well water their entire lives and none of the 28 have had problems with it.

Kellin is eating the prescription food for now until it runs out, but he eats other food as well with the other cats and likes it better.

On another occasion we were told by our vet that the other eleven year old female Burmese we have named Polly was diagnosed with liver cancer and needed more tests which would cost about $500. Polly had lost a lot of weight and had stopped eating and drinking. We she would vomit anytime she ate or drank so she just quit. They tried to get us to buy the same prescription cat food for Polly, but we turned it down and instead used the internet to do research.

We did as another cat caretaker had done and hand fed Polly goats milk with an eye dropper. We did get some meds from the vet for the nausea she had so she would hold the milk down. After about six weeks of this procedure Polly began to drink water on her own without throwing it back up and then about a week later she began eating and holding down small amounts of soft food.

Today, two years later, Polly is very healthy and runs and plays with other cats like she is a kitten. She is now thirteen tears old and though we no longer give her goats milk, we do give her glucosamine for cats which seems to have helped her joint health and enabled her to run and play again. It’s amazing how a little research on your own can go a long way to making you a little wiser and maybe happier and healthier.

Good luck on your own research and please read the article from the title above.

Can Eating Fast Food Kill You?

The answer to this question is most certainly yes, eating fast food can kill you or at least make you very sick.

My answer is based on my own personal experiences. I have had food poison from eating at fast food restaurants and from buying from vending machines a couple of times. However, my greatest experience was from almost losing my grandson, Jacob, after he and some friends ate Buffalo chicken wings and chicken sandwiches from a fast food restaurant after school in December of 2016.

My grandson is 20 and taking college pre-med classes. He began having issues with diarrhea a few days after he and some friends stopped off after school for lunch at a fast food restaurant. My grandson had eaten a chicken sandwich. Unfortunately the food was laced with a very serious type of bacteria called  Campylobacter.

Although Jacob’s mom is a nurse, do to modesty, he didn’t tell her he was having diarrhea problems until a week had gone by. By this time Jacob had begun having episodes of fever and chills while the diarrhea was getting worse and he was becoming severely dehydrated. Jacob lives at home with his mom, but both he and his mom attend college. Jacob’s mom is taking classes to become a nurse practitioner and works two jobs as well so they don’t see much of each other.

When Jacob finally told his mom he had diarrhea and felt sick, she took my grandson to their family doctor where they said Jacob had a bug with flu-like symptoms, but no virus. They gave him intravenous fluids for the dehydration and sent him home. After another week and Jacob was getting no better his mom took him back to the doctor and once again they said the same thing. Jacob’s mom knew there was something more serious going on and took him to the emergency room at the hospital where she works as an ICU nurse.

After many tests the conclusion was an intestinal problem in his colon, but Jake continued getting worse and began having numbness in one side. He was coded blue and the ICU team was rushed in because they thought he may be having a stroke. Nothing was found so more tests were ordered and an infectious disease doctor was called in to look at the case. She called for another test.

The latest tests showed the emergency room doctor’s original diagnosis was off somewhat and that Jacob had a type of food poison called Campylobacter and the infectious disease doctor immediately placed Jacob on strong antibiotics.

Campylobacter are a group of germs (bacteria) that are a common cause of food poisoning. Food poisoning occurs when food or water contaminated with germs (microbes), poisons (toxins) or chemicals is eaten or drunk. Microbes include bacteria, viruses and parasites. A parasite is a living thing that lives in, or on, another living organism. Typically, food poisoning causes gastroenteritis, an infection of the gut (intestines). This leads to diarrhoea and sometimes also to being sick (vomiting). (Source: Patient.Info)

But, after still more tests they found that the Campylobacter infection had caused an active issue with severe colitis in Jacob’s colon. He continued to have fevers and they found that when he was given acetaminophen, the drug compound used in Tylenol, his fever would go up. His meds were switched to ibuprofen and his fever began staying down. After about two more weeks in the hospital Jacob was well enough to go home with continued treatments at home.

DHEC investigated the case to trace the cause of the infection and see if anyone else had contracted it. It turned out other folks including Jake’s friends who ate at the same restaurant had also become infected. Jacob has now made a full recovery, is back in school, and he also aquired his first job as a certified first responder with a paramedic team.

Why Donald Trump uses Twitter

Responsible news media outlets should be unbiased in their reporting and just report the facts, good or bad. The news media’s opinion should never be voiced to influence the opinion of their audience.  Doing so destroys democracy and legitimacy which in turn has taken down countries and the people within them time and time again.

Donald Trump uses his Twitter account because it is a direct link to the public and his messages will be immediate and powerful, thus giving more transparency and legitimacy which is something other past and current presidents and politicians have promised, but never delivered on.

I have friends in other countries who I check with about certain reports I hear in US mainstream news about happenings abroad and the answer I receive is,”That’s not actually true.” or “That’s not the whole story.”

If you have ever wondered why Donald Trump does not trust the mainstream news media and prefers to use Twitter instead, watching the reactions of the reporters to the Trump win of the 2016 election in the following video should clearly prove why.

Obama’s failures as president of United States

Who is Barack ObamaWhile doing a recent Google search for an article, I ran into some interesting figures when I searched the term, “Obama’s accomplishments as President of United States”.

As you can see, obamas-accomplishments1there were around 3,010,000 results of others searching this term at the time. But when I changed the word accomplishments to failures, the obamas-failures1numbers increased dramatically to 29,800,000.

It appears that folks around the world are more concerned with Barack Obama’s failures than his accomplishments.

Let’s see why that may be from just one journalist’s account.

Genevieve Wood is the senior fellow in communications at the Heritage Foundation and the senior contributor for the Daily Signal.

Tuesday night, exactly 2,899 days after his 2008 election victory speech in Chicago’s Grant Park, President Obama returned to his adopted hometown to give his farewell speech to the nation.

The president who promised to fundamentally transform the country ticked off a list of what he deemed as his administration’s accomplishments. Interestingly, he neglected to explain why such accomplishments ultimately led to Democrats losing the White House, Congress, and elected offices up and down state ballots over the last eight years.

Here are several other facts he didn’t include:

When Obama entered office, our national debt was $10.6 trillion. Today? It’s $19.5 trillion and counting.

On his watch, there was an unparalleled expansion of the regulatory state. Since he took office in 2009, more than 200 new major regulations have increased the regulatory burden by $108 billion annually. And these burdens fall directly onto the shoulders of everyday Americans.

Heritage Foundation economists predict that Obama’s regulations to counter climate change alone will kill hundreds of thousands of jobs and increase what American households spend on electricity by 13 to 20 percent over the next 20 years.

And then there is the president’s signature policy, the Affordable Care Act, which has proven to be anything but affordable. Contrary to what he originally promised, many Americans have not been able to keep their doctors.

So far, more than half of the 23 co-ops have failed, costing taxpayers $1.2 billion and forcing more than 740,000 people in 14 states, at last count, to scramble to find new health insurance.

Premiums did not go down, they went up. And by 2025, the Congressional Budget Office predicts that employment-based coverage will cost about 60 percent more than it does today because of Obamacare.

When it comes to fighting poverty, instead of building on successful measures, such as requiring able-bodied adults on welfare to work, prepare for work, or do a job search, the Obama administration gutted work requirements. And though unemployment has dropped in recent years, the food stamp program has grown dramatically. In 2008, fewer than 30 million Americans were receiving food stamps. By 2014, that number had risen to 46.5 million.

Then there was his tendency to act like an imperial president.

From granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants to mandating transgender bathroom policies on public schools, the Obama administration showed a complete disregard for Congress and the people’s elected representatives, using executive orders to get its way.

And, as Obama comes to the end of his two terms in office, is the world a better place? Is it safer?

Let’s take a look . . .

By any objective measure, trans-national terrorist threats are far greater today than when Obama took office in 2009. There have been more than 90 Islamist-related terror plots aimed at the United States since 9/11, and most of them have occurred on his watch.

The Iran nuclear deal can already be deemed a failure as Tehran is now more aggressive than ever. It is accelerating its ballistic missile program, has escalated its military intervention in Syria, and continues to stoke the sectarian divisions in Iraq.

Our relations with China are worse, and we’ve done nothing to stop its attempts to lay claim to the South China Sea in defiance of international norms. Obama clearly feels that getting the Chinese to sign the Paris agreement on climate change matters more than their island-building and tests of new ballistic missiles in that region.

The president promised to reset relations with Russia and signed the New START agreement. The result? Russia continues to modernize nuclear weapons. It seized Crimea and continues to conduct a proxy war in Ukraine and support genocide in Syria.

And closer to home, there is little evidence that Obama’s normalizing of relations with Cuba has done anything but strengthen the Castro regime. Violent beatings against pro-democracy activists have escalated, and the number of political dissidents being detained is on schedule to break previous records.

But perhaps one of the most concerning outcomes of Obama’s policies is that the state of our military has deteriorated – primarily as a result of inadequate funding, which led to a shrinking force that possesses aging equipment and modest levels of readiness for combat. The Heritage Index of U.S. Military Strength now grades the state of the military as marginal – not exactly a term that puts fear in the hearts of those who might seek to challenge us.

Despite the president’s attempt to suggest otherwise, America is not better off and the world is not a safer place after his eight years in office.

I doubt this was the “hope and change” most Americans were counting on. And Americans followed his “Yes, we can” mantra by electing a completely new direction for the country in November 2016.
